What is Doubles League?

The intention of the doubles league is to give competitive players the ability to play once a month with players of a similar level from other clubs within their region, in a competition outside of tournaments.

We want the competition to be:

- Fair (the structure of the competition shouldn't favour any individuals or groups)

- Even (the groups should be evenly balanced so that there will not be excessive targeting)

- Fun (getting to play with lots of great players who all want to be there for fun should equal fun!)

- Transparent (clear rules; accessibility to the results and league tables)

Finally, we want to raise some funds for PickleballEngland to help grow pickleball.

How it works

Players sign up and pay for session prior to the day.

Elaine or someone appointed by her manages the session and based on attendance will assign players to a court to ensure that skill is evenly balanced.

Players will normally play 10 games to 11 win by 1.

The order of play will be displayed for each court and players must write the result of all the games on the order of play sheet. Players should check that all results are correct before leaving the event as no edits will be made once the results have been added to the PbE website and submitted to DUPR.

The order of play ensures that each player plays with each player twice and against each player 4 times (if there are 6 players).

The results of the matches will be populated into a league table for the night and will be published on the PickleballEngland website.

The results of prior league sessions will be leveraged to determine court assignments, along with players DUPR rating and self assessed rating. Results will be sent to DUPR.

The format allows for players to move between groups based on their results.

Terms & Conditions:

  1. Players accept that the League Leader will assign them to a court and they will play with everyone else assigned to that court for the duration of the session.
  2. The league leader will check DUPR results for each name entered and will query your self assessment rating if anything looks questionable. Please get in touch via the enquiries tab if you have no rating or a very low active rating, so that a judgement can be established between you and the League Leader.
  3. The Doubles League is a gender neutral competition, which means it could happen that based on the predeterminded playing order 2 women may play against 2 men. However we do our utmost to match players with similar ratings, either self declared or based on your up to date DUPR rating.
  4. After the first league session and if it is possible and you have played in previous sessions, the results of those sessions will be reviewed to determine court assignments.
  5. The League Leader's decision is final.
  6. All players have to register and pay ahead of the session. In the event that someone that has registered cannot play, a refund will only be made if a replacement can be found in time.
  7. Standby registrations will be accepted and this list will be used to find a replacement in the event someone cancels.
  8. Cancellations that we can't find a replacement for will not be refunded.
  9. Any refunds will be minus card fees.
  10. All scores will be uploaded to DUPR, please ensure you have an account on dupr.com
  11. All players will abide by the players Code of Conduct and any violation will be investigated.
  12. Players accept that pictures or video may be taken during the session and used by PickleballEngland.
