Eligibility & Registration

Who can enter the tournament?

The tournament is open to all players who are 60 years of age or older on the date of the competition.

What skill level should I enter?

Players should enter the skill division that best reflects their current playing ability. Club ratings may not reflect tournament ratings, so discuss the categories with peers, a coach, or contact the tournament organiser for advice if you are unsure. The tournament organiser reserves the right to move players between divisions if necessary.

Do I need a partner before registering?

No. You can sign up for the event and be paired with another willing individual. If this is the case, the tournament organiser will contact both players to inform them of the pairing and offer an opt-out option if desired.

If you already have a partner, simply register as an individual and request to be matched with your partner during registration.

What happens if there are not enough entries in my age or skill group?

The tournament organiser reserves the right to combine age groups or skill divisions to ensure meaningful competition. Should this be necessary, all affected players will be contacted and given the option to withdraw if the revised category is not suitable.

What happens if a category is cancelled?

If a category does not receive sufficient entries to run, affected players will be contacted as soon as possible. Where appropriate, players may be offered the opportunity to compete in a combined category or, if they prefer, withdraw and receive a full refund.

Partners & Withdrawals

Can I change partners after registering?

Partner changes may be permitted before the registration deadline, subject to approval by the tournament organiser. The existing partner would need to withdraw, and the new partner should register for the event and request the partnership. If you need assistance, please contact the tournament organiser at pbwworkshop@yahoo.com.

What happens if my partner withdraws?

You may find a replacement partner, subject to tournament approval and registration deadlines. If no replacement can be found, your entry may be withdrawn. Where possible, a player on the waiting list may be offered as a replacement partner.

What happens if I have to withdraw?

You can withdraw through the Picklebook registration site and request a refund. Refunds will only be issued in accordance with the tournament refund policy.

If you need to withdraw after the registration closing date, please notify the tournament organiser immediately via pbwworkshop@yahoo.com.

Tournament Format

How will the tournament format work?

The exact format will depend on the number of entries. Events are expected to be played using pool play, followed by medal and positional matches. However, if entry numbers require, categories may instead be played as a round robin followed by knockout rounds or as a full round robin.

The final format will be confirmed after registration closes.

What is the minimum number of matches I can expect?

The number of matches will depend on the number of entries in each category and the tournament format. Our aim is for every player to receive a minimum of five matches, with many categories expected to provide between five and eight matches.

Will results be uploaded to DUPR?

No. We want players to enjoy the tournament without the pressure of DUPR rating changes based on tournament results.

Will referees be provided?

Where possible, medal matches will be officiated. Earlier matches will be self-officiated.

Before the Event

When will I know my match times?

The tournament schedule will be published approximately 1–2 weeks before the event and distributed via email.

Do I need to be available all day?

Yes. Players should be available throughout the day of the event they have entered, as match times may change.

• Mixed Doubles: Saturday 14 November
• Gender Doubles: Sunday 15 November

On the Day

Will warm-up courts be available?

Yes. Players will have approximately 45 minutes before the start of their event to register, check in and warm up on the available courts.

What ball will be used?

The tournament will use Franklin X-40 yellow outdoor pickleballs.

Is there a dress code?

Players should wear suitable sports clothing. Please avoid yellow or neon green clothing, as these colours can make the ball difficult to see. Players wearing inappropriate clothing may be asked to change before competing or, if necessary, may be withdrawn from the competition.

Venue & Facilities

Can spectators attend?

Yes. Spectators are welcome throughout the tournament free of charge. Newport Tennis Centre has a central raised viewing area offering excellent views of the courts.

Will food and drinks be available?

Yes. Refreshments and light food will be available to purchase from the venue café.

Is parking available?

Yes. Free parking is available at Newport Tennis Centre, although spaces may be limited during busy periods.

Are there accessible changing facilities and toilets?

Yes. Accessible changing facilities and toilets are available at the venue and are located immediately outside the indoor tennis halls.

Is first aid available on site?

Yes. Qualified first aiders will be present throughout the tournament. Newport Live staff and the tournament organisers all hold appropriate first aid qualifications, and first aid equipment will be available on site.

Photography & Contact

Will there be photographs taken?

Photographs and videos may be taken throughout the tournament for promotional purposes. If you do not wish to appear in any photographs or videos, please inform the tournament organiser before play begins.
