General Information

By registering for and participating in the Welsh Open Masters all players agree to abide by the terms, conditions, and rules outlined in this document. These terms are subject to change at the discretion of the tournament organisers.

Eligibility

• • All participants must be aged 60 or over by the date of the tournament.
  • Players must register in advance and have their entry confirmed by the organisers.
  • By entering, players confirm that they are fit to participate in moderate to intense physical activity.
  • Players sign up as individuals and have a 4-day window to request their partnership. We encourage partners to sign up within 4 days of each other to make the partner matching a smooth process. This will help reduce the number of unwanted player partner requests.

Registration & Payment

• • A £20.00 registration fee is applied to all players.
  • Each category holds an entry fee of £20.00.
  • If signing up for a single category, the total fee would be £40.00. If signing up for two categories, the fee would be £60.00.
  • All payments are to be made through Picklebook upon event sign-up or when being moved from the standby list to the event.

Cancellations & Refunds, and Substitutions

• • Players can cancel their registration and receive a refund for the event up until the 30th October 2026. Any cancellations after the stated closing date will not be refunded.
  • Should you wish to provide a substitution if you can no longer make the event, contact the tournament organiser (pbwworkshop@yahoo.com) to discuss.

Tournament Format & Rules

• • Divisions will be based on skill ratings (e.g., 3.0-, 3.5+, 4.0+, etc.).
  • Each match will be played to 11 points, win by 1 (unless a medal match, in which matches will either be played to 15, win by 1 point, or best of three games, win by 1). This is dependent on the group size and time constraints.
  • Paddles must be regulation-approved, and Yellow Franklin X-40 balls will be used throughout.
  • Players should arrive within the registration window.
  • Any player who is late or does not show will forfeit their match(es). Organisers may be able to provide a stand-in player to allow for the tournament to continue as planned. However, if the stand-in player does not adhere to the eligibility criteria outlined above, all scores for that playing pair will be recorded as 11-0 losses.
  • Players should not wear yellow or neon green clothing to avoid obscuring the view of the ball during play. Players will be asked to change clothing if deemed inappropriate by tournament staff.
  • The tournament director and committee’s decisions are final.

Code of Conduct & Etiquette

All players and spectators are expected to:

• • Always demonstrate good sportsmanship and fair play.
  • Respect the decisions of tournament officials.
  • Avoid disruptive behaviour and unsportsmanlike language.
  • Refrain from coaching or shouting during points.
  • Wear appropriate indoor court footwear and sportswear.
  • Ensure that food and coloured liquids are not brought onto the courts. Belongings can be left safely in the viewing areas.

Failure to adhere to the code of conduct may result in warnings, disqualification, or removal from the venue without refund.

Health & Safety

• • Participation is at each player's own risk. It is the responsibility of each player to ensure they are physically fit to compete.
  • A basic first aid kit will be available on-site, and tournament organisers will assist in seeking further onsite and offsite medical help if required.
  • All injuries must be reported to the tournament desk immediately.
  • The playing surface is an indoor tennis surface. Appropriate footwear is mandatory to reduce the risk of slipping.
  • Newport Tennis Centre (Newport Live) have a thorough risk assessment for the Tennis Centre in place to minimise risk, but participants should also remain aware of their surroundings and notify staff of any hazards.

Photography & Media

• • By participating, players consent to being photographed and recorded for promotional purposes by the event organisers. Photos will be made available on associated Pickleball Wales / Welsh Pickleball affiliated social media sites.
  • We encourage players and spectators to take photos during the event and share them with the tournament organisers post the event.
  • Players who do not wish to be photographed must inform the organisers in writing before the event.

Liability Waiver

• • The tournament organisers, venue, Pickleball Wales and associated volunteers/staff shall not be liable for any loss, injury, or damage sustained during the tournament to persons or belongings.
  • All participants agree to release and hold harmless the organisers and venue from any claims arising out of participation.

Data Protection

• • Personal information collected during registration will be used solely for tournament administration and will not be shared with third parties.

Acceptance of Terms
